Iran Bennett
6’9/300/Center
Mt Zion National (Durham, NC)
Team Loaded North Carolina
Introduction
You do not miss Iran Bennett as he takes the floor. The native of Hickory, North Carolina is a big framed young man. Tipping the scales around 300 pounds, Bennett is built more like an offensive lineman than a basketball post player. Bennett is rated as the #6 player in North Carolina’s 2016 class.
Playing for Team Loaded North Carolina, on the Adidas Gauntlet Circuit, Bennett averaged close to 12 points and 7 boards per contest. Bennett played his first two high school years at Bull City Prep, he has transferred this year to play for the national team at Mt Zion, in Durham.
Positives
Bennett is blessed with a very strong, very large set of hands. These hands are where his paint dominance begins, they are soft and like magnets for the ball. Once the ball is in his possession, Bennett has quick feet and loose hips in the post. As he is taught post footwork and positioning, his game should continue to take off.
Bennett shows the ability to be a good area rebounder and possesses sneaky explosion.
Areas of Improvement
Bennett’s improvement starts and ends with his conditioning. Naturally the longer he is able to stay in the game, the more effective he will be. Bennett will need to continue to work on his post IQ and skill development on the nuances of his position.
Moving Forward
Bennett has a world of natural potential. At this point he is a bull on the low block, with the ability to score multiple ways on most opponents. There are not many that can compete with his size, soft touch, and quick feet. He will play a high level national schedule this season, so as he continues to improve his conditioning, it will be interesting to see how his game grows.
Bennett was invited to, and participated in, the prestigious NC Top 80 exposure event.
