6’3 ½ 2016 Davion Mintz “Stock on the Rise”
Last year, Davion Mintz was a top 50 player in the loaded North Carolina 2016 class. He has always possessed good length and athleticism. Mintz was the primary ball handler at North Mecklenburg last season and one could see the upside and potential. He was a low risk PG that made good passes and in most part excellent decisions on the court. That being said, he was a good, but not great shooter. Mintz had a few deficiencies in his shooting technique that triggered some inconsistency in his game
At our open gym tour and watching him at the most recent Phenom Skills Camp, one can easily tell that Mintz has put hard work during the summer on his shooting fundamentals and technique. Mintz was absolutely fantastic in all the drills at the Phenom Skills Camp. His work ethic was tremendous and at 6’3 ½, the North Mecklenburg PG has the length and athleticism that will translate at the collegiate level, especially with mid major programs. While he shot the perimeter jumper with efficiency, it was his ability to create shots off the dribble that was impressive, especially his step back jump shot.
Mintz is currently ranked number 42 in the Phenom North Carolina 2016 rankings and with his improvement; he will make a quantum jump in our new ranking due in late October. College coaches can go ahead and put this young man in their SIM CARD, he is one of those prospects that is on the verge of “blowing up.”
